John,

I am  almost certainly going to be called a pain in the butt for the following.  I see this error constantly among writers and bloggers.  As the resident geezer geek for most sf and tech blogs, I beg you:

You wrote "There's only 2 days left" the correct construction is "There are only 2 days left".

The verb "are" applies to the 2 days, a plural subject.  The verb "is" would only apply of there were only 1 day left.

You would recognize "They is great writers." as an incorrect construction (I hope!).  The same rule applies here.  There is probably a technical term for this, but it escapes me at the moment.

Sorry to be a pain.  You're not the first whom I've tried to correct, and you won't be the first to ignore me.

Thanks, Rick.  You are right, of course.  I don't mind being corrected.  In fact, it is the foundation of my marriage.  Hiyo!
