- Author/Editor Jeff Crook is launching a new literary award for heroic fantasy and sword-and-sorcery stories. The award is titled The Ham-Sized Fist Award and offers a $300 prize each for the author and publisher. [via Jason Sanford]
- Jacek Dukaj’s epic alternate history/science fiction novel Lód (“Ice”) is one of the winners of the European Commission’s brand new European Prize for Literature.

I very much hope this (yet another!) prize for Jacek Dukaj might encourage foreign (especially English-language) publishers to publish translations of his books. He’s the biggest talent in Polish science fiction since Stanisław Lem.
