You can read the prequel to “Chain of Stars” (titled “Chain of Fools”) here (subterraneanpress.com). Jay Lake’s full-length novels set in the clockwork universe (Mainspring and Escapement) both left me a bit frustrated when viewed as a whole, but both contained some GREAT world elements. I’m looking forward to reading both of these short stories today (which I never knew about until now). Thanks!
