OOooooh, I cannot wait more Horus Heresy books. Joy!!!!
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed most–but certainly not all–of the Horus Heresy books, mainly because the present a huge and multifaceted epic storyline that, at heart, deals with the same subjects that made Herbert’s Dune books and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings so gripping: questions of rationality versus mysticism, collective destiny versus individuality, and knowledge versus deception. Unlike the former series, though, the Horus Heresy is an utter tragedy in that it more or less retells the fall of Rome to Christianity and the following Dark Ages, only with lasers, and giant battle-mechs.
It’s no wonder the fundamentalists are getting themselves into a scits over ‘A Thousnad Sons’ if you read 333-334 you will see exactly what Magnus thinks of christianity. Yes, the heresy novels definitely have a moral to them, it’s just too bad it’s not immediately noticable and most people miss it. It’s lucky WH40K is a niche hobby or else it would’ve been branded Satanic and banned from state schools long ago
