    It appears to me that the panel intentionally avoided the darker implications of “The Singularity”

    Stross got close when he called the first singularity language but what he did not explore is that very few made it to the other side of that singularity. From my understanding is that the genetic stock of all of Europe came from a handful of less then 20 individuals. Asia and Africa have similarly small genetic origins.

     

    From all accounts that i have read of the survivors of the original singularity was not large. Today out of all the multitudes of sapiens that existed before that singularity i can only count Humans, Chimps, Orangutans and Gorillas that survived it. Everything else vanished (read died) from the face of the earth. Furthermore looking at the human genome and our relatively close genetic ancestry only a handful made it the other side. the other non-chatty apes I mentioned obviously did not.
