I don’t know about this one. The books that win nebulas/hugos tend to have a healthy amount of some new branch of science, but don’t necessarily have a good plot or characters that a new sf reader would enjoy.
I agree completely. That said, some folks who want to dip their toes in the waters of science fiction without going for a lengthy swim are specifically looking for books that have received accolades. This post is for them.
