Finding the time for reading everything I want to read IS a problem, agreed.

There are a couple of novels and novellas with "smaller scale" set in the Malazan universe. You could try one of those as an entree.

But I wonder, now that you've clarified the scale here, if and how those (e.g. The Night of Knives) match up with Abraham's book.

I haven't read Erikson though I've heard good things about his writing. I get the impression that his series is much broader in scale than this one, but maybe another reader can chime in on that. Now that the Malazan series is done I'll have to give serious thought to reading those books. The trouble is finding the time...

Thanks, Jessica.

Two positive reviews give me hope that I will enjoy it more than I did the last epic fantasy I finished. Then again, Abraham does have some books under his belt at this point, and I did like the one volume of the LPQ that I read.

This review and other blurbs make me wonder if the right comparison for this book is the Malazan books by Erikson. Have you read any of those?
