No thanks. There was only one really good, thought-provoking and “smart” Apes movie. You know the one. It ended with Heston pounding sand. (“Damn you all to hell!”) All the others were tripe, especially “Escape.” In that one, we are expected to believe that three Apes somehow recovered a wrecked, sunken spaceship from significant depths, somehow jury rig a replacement for the blown hatch, learned to fly it and lifted off just in time to miss the detonation of the doomsday bomb. Yes, I know. I know. Suspension of disbelief, the there is also something called “internal logic.” Don’t even get me started on “Conquest” and “Battle.” I just ate. Oh, and that Burton mutant? My God!!

The original POTA was brilliant for it’s novelty and execution, especially a strong, accomplished cast, most of whom were unrecognizable. Wonderful. The sequels were all crap. That being the case, no more Apes for me, thsnks.

Note to Hollywood. Have you bastards ever had an original thought? How about a series based on Saberhagen’s “Berserker” series, or the long-awaited “Rendezvous with Rama” adaptation. Pathetic.

I’ll probably watch this, but if they had made a generic smart apes movie, I’d be more interested. But no, they had to go with Planet of the Apes because people have heard of that. I’m just sick of remakes, reboots, retellings, rewhatevers. Doesn’t anyone make original movies anymore?
