T. C. McCarthy’s is the author of Germline, published by Orbit.

There is definitely something to this book. I reviewed it in very brief (a longer more interesting one is here) and, maybe it was coming off of the 50-hour descriptive tome that is A Dance with Dragons, Germline just shot along, well suited to its strug-out, not quite gonzo or beat, narrator. I’m not really sure the cover copy captures the essence of the book. Yes, there’s Oscar, yes there’s drugs and war, but it’s not “about” drugs and war, somehow. There’s not pages-long descriptions of power suits and weaponry, or divergent stream of consciousness hallucinations. There’s a very human book in there, not quite fully coaxed out to perfection but very worthwhile.
