What Books Are You Looking Forward to Reading Over the Holidays?
It’s been a terrible reading year for me, in terms of quantity. My reading this year has been a small fraction of what it was last year. As such, it feels like I’m falling more behind than usual.
As happens, I look forward to the upcoming work holiday not just to spend more time with family and be away from work, but also to “catch up on my reading”.
It’ll never happen. The books covers you are looking at here are just a tiny sampling of the ones that are on the top of my “to-be-read” pile. (As a blogger who receives review copies, I am in the fortunate position to have much at hand from which to choose.)
But that doesn’t stop me from tricking myself into believing I’ll accompish a fair amount of reading.
Are you the same? Do you find that, faced with extra time over the holidays, you expect to read more?
If so, tell me: What books are you looking forward to reading over the holidays?

I have a copy of Planesrunner on my Kindle, but I am not “up to it” yet in my reading queue. But its going to be extremely high in that list and hope to get into it soonish.
Reading, I have found, is a great way to take a few minutes for yourself in the hustle, bustle and headaches of the holiday season.
I just acquired a copy of Hard Magic by Larry Corriea…
I’m right there with you. Usually around the holidays I get caught up on reading. Well, as much as someone like me with literarlly hundreds of unread books to get to can. Thanksgiving week, which I took off completely I managed to read 6 or 7 books, most of them great. This Christmas I’m trying to just pick enjoyable reads and not pick any with a mind to review them necessarily. I hope to finish the last Abhorsen book from Garth Nix. For the last couple of years I’ve always tried to read a Nix around Christmas. I may also treat myself to The Magician King by Lev Grossman and Woodings latest Ketty Jay novel.
This year I read the first books of several series (didn’t initially realize they were series), so looking forward to reading the next books after The Hunger Games, The Soulkeepers, Old Man’s War, and Ender’s Game.
Planning on finally finishing “Galileo’s Dream” by Kim Stanley Robinson. Got sidetracked by 11/22/63
Well, I sure wish I had a copy of that Robert Sawyer book, but that’s not out until next year, right?
I just got copies of “Count to a Trillion”, Huffs latest “Valor” novel and that “I, Robot” novel.
I’ll read that Patrick Lee book, too, once it’s released.
I have yet to start the latest Stephen King, Neal Stephenson and 1Q84.
But am currently enjoying “War of the Green Lanterns” and “Superboy, Smallville Attacks”.
