One series that is Fantasy Thriller that I can't recommend enough is F Paul Wilson's Adversary Cycle. The First 3 novels (The Keep, The Tomb, and The Touch) can be read in any order and stand alone wonderfully. They introduce you to the main villain and three heroes. The next 2 novels (Reborn and Reprisal) follow the rebirth and rise of the Villain. Then Night World brings everything together and destroys the world.

And lets be honest...

Who doesn't love a good ending to the world.

Not extra-terrestrial, but I always liked "Lucifer's Hammer" By Niven and Pournelle.

Kudos for the "Andromeda Strain" pick. I've always considered the 1970 movie one of the best adaptations of a book to come out of Hollywood, regardless of genre.

Paul, you stumped me. I honestly never thought about setting when making this list. I had a bit of tunnel vision in thinking about thrillers will good science elements, science fiction elements, and representing classics and more well known authors and works along with some lesser knowns. I'll have to think about this. Yes, The Returning is set out in the galaxy. I'm sure you're right that there are others. Perhaps post readers can suggest some while I do a bit more research and thinking on it. Apologies.

Thanks, Bryan.

A nice, wide variety of thrillers you have here. My only quibble is that all of them are set on Earth. Your own The Returning is not, but if you had some non-Earth based Honorable Mentions, what would they be?
