I’m not a big fan of motion comics generally – an uncomfortable halfway house that loses what’s good about both comics or animation – but these Hellboy ones are OK. I think it’s because they’ve gone waaaaaay over to the animation side of the equation, so my brain treats them as that and ignores any theoretical connection to comics. Helps that they’re by some seriously good creators: writer, artist and colorist are all top talent. Still think their talents would be better displayed in a plain, old-fashioned comic, but that’s me being a grumpy old man I expect.
I agree on the motion comics. I usually don’t like them. The ‘animation’ is on the sparse side, making it more like an audio comic book, and who wants to ‘watch’ that? But these Hellboy motion comics from Dark Horse really stood out to me, which is why I wanted to share them here on SFSignal
Glad you like em!
