Lisa, I completely agree with you. It was one thing I liked about Doctor Who, most of the companions were very normal-looking and wore regular clothing. If you do write a blog about it, I’d love to read it. (I have way too many opinions on the topic, and about the seemingly eternal youth of major characters, and how there are so few female characters that are both strong AND happy about being a girl, and… sorry. Did it again.)

I really would love to read your thoughts.

I love the Time Magazine quote at the end of the original trailer: “The most dazzling visual happenings in the history of the motion picture.” For some reason the phrase, “most dazzling visual happenings” makes me think of “all your base belong to us.”

Ingrid: Regarding the skinniness factor, I could do a whole blog post on comparing male and female characters in Star Wars Clone Wars and how a few of the female characters had really ridiculous proportions. It really bugs me when I see male Jedi in long sleeves, long pants *and* a robe on top of that when female characters are wearing belly-baring tops. The difference is just so obvious, but at least it seems they addresses the issue with Ashoka Tano.

Gumbo for the ears! Great episode, and I completely agree with Lisa concerning men/women’s clothes in sci-fi fantasy stuff. As a mom of two kids – now teens – it was a challenge when they were younger. (mind you, my daughter was a total tough-sell when it came to genre tv or fiction). I’d like to point out that not only are the clothes sometimes (not always, but more often than not) very double standard, but there is also the overly skinniness of some of the female leads. And no muscle. And female leads that just act like guys. Oh, please forgive me, I’ll stop. Love the podcast!
