The TV heads are deeply mysterious (while being mostly just a fun idea) - robots? Allegedly, but they get 'pregnant', whatever that means in this context. I expect all will become clear eventually ...

I'd second the recommendation of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina (BKV's most recentish famous comics), both of which are very good, in very different ways. Personally, I think Saga is, so far, better than either of them, in part because I think Staples is the most interesting and effective artist he's been paired with, but also because I think BKV's writing here is fantastically assured - as if he doesn't think he has anything to prove (which he doesn't), and is just relaxing and having fun.

I think Saga is an extremely inventive mix of sf & fantasy (what the heck are those tv heads?), and more exciting than most prose genre fiction out there (and doesn't take 20 plus hours to read). Unfortunately it's not standalone, but still enjoyable. Don't give up after the first chapter. If nothing else, the dialog will make you laugh. Also get Y the Last Man and Ex Machina if you haven't already. Hold the back cover out if you're embarrassed while carrying it.
