Lots of great choices, but I'd rather read summer books during the winter, maybe because I'm in a spot in the Rockies which routinely hits below zero lows from December through February... (I second the love for Icerigger, though...)

I have to say that I have this sudden, almost overwhelming urge, to go read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I've only read the story once and that was several years ago aloud to my young daughter...who is now 20, so its been a looong time.

Cool to see Leiber's Swords Against Death mentioned. Such a great one.

I'm currently reading Season of Wonder edited by Paula Guran. It is an anthology of reprint stories that all have a Christmas or Winter element. So far it is a nice collection.

My favorite "winter" novel is Alan Dean Foster's "Icerigger." The feudal alien species that a group of shipwreckees meet, the Tran, get around on the ice via claws and leather flaps that catch the wind. The world is very well realized, there are some nice epic battles, and it features one of Foster's fan-favorite characters in a supporting role, the indomitable Skua September. It's by far Foster's best early novel.
