"Marianne: The heroic aspect of my characters is generally that they are imbued with an intrinsic kindness or generosity of spirit. The anti-hero side is that they are always extremely flawed and make lots of bad decisions. Complexity of character means internal conflicts, doubts, mistakes and missed opportunities – stereotypical heroes don’t harbour those kinds of problems."

THIS paragraph is one of the reasons I love reading Marianne's books. Flaws in characters make them REAL. A true connection to the reader that we can all relate. So far I have only completed her Night Creatures series but continuing on now with her Tara Sharp books and find Marianne's way of making her characters completely understandable brings out the emotions the reader needs to really enjoy a good story. And she's a wonderful story teller, Now that the space opera books are finally available here in the U.S. That is what I'll be picking up next! Cannot wait, they sound amazing

I love this review~ Great job :)

I've always loved every one of Marianne's books. I picked up Nylon Angel close to a decade ago and it remains one of my favourite books to this day. And things just got better from there. This is a great interview.

Marianne has a natural knack for portraying all the complexity, vulnerability, and strength of her female characters. Their anti-heroic nature makes them (I think) much more relatable and a less stereotypical. This is a fantastic thing to see in sci fi and for some reason quite rare. Marianne seems to have cornered a niche in sci fi that needed some serious attention - now it has that we can all find something fantastic with a feminine edge on the sci-fi shelf in Australia. I'm so happy that she is expanding to other countries - stories like hers deserve to be shared.

Great interview. While I'm not huge on the anti-hero; I love a good flawed hero. It gives the story so much more depth and interest. I'll have to keep an eye out for Sentients of Orion.
