I read that LJ article too. I read the book right after it came out and I pretty much agree with everything she said. I hope you enjoy it!
As a side note, I loved the 13th Warrior too Patrick!

I have a vague notion that I read this at the time but I re-read it and it seems like a fair assessment in which you ultimately had a good time with the book, which is where my expectations are. I don’t read a lot of urban fantasy but I have enjoyed most of what I’ve sampled.

A couple of days ago I came across a Livejournal post from Seanan McGuire that was a response to the bigger conversation about sexism (and physically impossible poses) on genre covers that Jim Hines is at the center of. McGuire mentions that people had commented negatively about her Discount Armageddon cover and she goes on to defend why she actually likes the cover and how it works for her character. I enjoyed what she had to say so much I ordered a copy from the library. It will be my first experience with her work and I look forward to checking it out.
