Catching Up on SciFi Movies (Part 25): Cabin in the Woods / The Thing (2011) / Prometheus

Continuing a trend tailor-made for the Twitter generation, here are my quick takes on a few recently-watched genre-related films.

My brief thoughts follow…

  • Cabin in the Woods (2012) – Smartly written and perfectly paced, this neo-horror film uses old tropes to great effect and reveals its ultimate plot like a tasty trail of breadcrumbs to the satisfying conclusion.
  • The Thing (2011) – A mediocre film and a pointless prequel that offered nothing to the original John Carpenter film, much less to science fiction horror films. Where was the paranoia that elevated the Carpenter film? Bah!
  • Prometheus (2012) – The one good thing about this was that it kept me interested enough to see how the story played out. Sadly, as it played out the story seemed determined to rack up events that didn’t make logical sense.

You were too kind to ‘Prometheus’.

    By far.
