TRAILER PARK: Pacific Rim, The Wind Rises, Ghost In The Shell Arise

A new day brings a new trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s Giant Robots vs. Giant Monsters movie. This trailer focuses more on the humans involved in the fighting and tones down the sound effects and dials up the dialog. What you get is awesomeness. This one screams to be seen on the big screen, if you know what I mean.

Next up, we have the return of the master of Japanese animation, Hayao Miyazaki, with The Wind Rises. The movie is about Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of Japan’s famed Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane of World War II, but it’s not really a war movie, focusing more on Horikoshi’s love of flying. Even though we only get a 35 second teaser, anything by Miyazaki is worth watching. Debuts on July 20th in Japan.

Speaking of things that are worth watching, there is a new Ghost in the Shell prequel/psuedo-reboot series, Ghost in the Shell: Arise that just released in Japan (June 16th I think). Instead of being on TV, the plan is to release four 50-minute feature films to theaters, before releasing them on Blu-Ray. The first of these to be released is Border 1: Ghost Pain. Here’s the trailer (in Japanese):

Now I love me some Ghost in the Shell, especially the TV series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which is on my Top 10 SF Anime list. And look what we have here, the first 8 minutes of the new series! Hit the CC button to see English subtitles.

Yup, looks good! Can’t wait for it to hit the States…

  1. I have to say that if that speech reflects the rest of the dialogue, this could be a major suckathon. I hope not because I was really looking forward to this.
