NBC is resurrecting their superhero drama Heroes in 2015 and calling it Heroes Reborn. Rather than committing to series, it’s being brought back as a “13-episode event miniseries”. The plot of the “Heroes Reborn” stand-alone story arc is being kept secret, but Heroes creator Tim Kring is said to be back as Executive Producer. NBC will also launch a digital series prior to the 2015 premiere that will introduce the characters and new storylines and leveraging social media to engage fans via the #HeroesReborn tag.
I thought I was done my Heroes rants, but…
It’s great that Kring is back I guess. Hopefully fans will have forgotten how he blamed them for the show’s decline and only remember his subsequent boilerplate apology. I had a rocky start with Heroes — it was a show that simultaneously intrigued and annoyed me. Even months later when it became obvious that Kring (like the BSG cylons) did not have a plan, and on into Season 2. But 6 weeks into Season 2, I had to admit an obvious truth: Heroes Season 2 Officially Sucked. However, for you, fans, I continued watching…until I finally admitted it wasn’t worth anyone’s time. But like a true addict, I ponied up to the TV for another hit with the Season 3 opener, only to lose my self-esteem 45 minutes in…and feel suckered in again when it exhibited the same old problems with a fresh “Season 3” label on it.
So, yeah, good luck with that, NBC. I get that you want an answer to ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I really do. But Heroes was a great idea that didn’t fly. (Ba-dum crash!) It was destroyed by illogical story lines, characters who didn’t have the cajones to actually be superheroes, contrived and non-sensical cliffhangers, and some bad acting.
Anyway, here’s the teaser promo for Heroes Reborn. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
