TRAILER: SyFy’s 12 Monkeys

SyFy seems to be on a mission to shed some of it’s, well, less than stellar reputation with regards to quality SF on its network. They’ve recently announced series based on S.A. Corey’s Expanse novels, John Scalzi’s The Ghost Brigades and a “re-imagining” of Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys. Below is the trailer for SyFy’s version.

You can see the beats based on the movie, but it’s clear this show is also heading out on its own, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, it looks like Syfy TV show based on the, shall we say, rather lower budget look of the trailer. Still, I applaud SyFy for trying to put more honest to goodness SF back on TV. I will definitely watch the first few episodes, hoping it will be at less decent enough to watch. Slated to drop in January 2015.

  1. Just curious what looks low budget to you? It certainly looks better than the Z nation trailer, which looks as cheesy as the show will probably be.

  2. I can’t really put it into words, other than to say, the overall look just shouts “low budget” to me. Of course, that’s compared to shows from the big 3 networks and things like GoT and other big budget shows on cable. Of course, 12 Monkeys doesn’t seem to be full of crappy CGI like Defiance is or Warehouse 13 was so it’s got that going for it.

    Which is nice.

I just don’t think SyFy has the overall budget per series to really make things look great. That concerns me when it comes to big space-based shows, like, say, the Expanse series. Then again, Galactica looked pretty darn good. I guess we’ll see.
