  4. It’s Saturday morning and I spent last night with excellent people sipping fine cocktails, eat dive bar food, and dancing to the ‘80s. I’m not quite ready to embark on writing today, so a little pseudo-writing procrastination, why not.
    1. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
    1. The Shadow of the Torturer (Book 1 of The Book of the New Sun) by Gene Wolfe
    2. What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?
    1. Dies the Fire by S.M. Stirling. I was onboard for the premise, really wanting some post-disaster survival, but the constant good fortune of the clan and the convenience of Mike’s side story made it hard to care about anyone. Post disaster, everything is coming up roses. No.
    3. What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?
    1. I honestly can’t say. Based on Goodreads reviews, I would say that opinion on The Book of the New Sun is fairly split, despite numerous avid fans. I disagreed with the negative consensus, so that works I suppose.
    4. What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?
    1. Maybe it hasn’t aged well, but I really didn’t care for The Stars my Destination by Alfred Bester.
    5. How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?
    1. I don’t often find long stretches to read but rather read in fits and jags all day every day. I usually read for a solid half hour before bed, though.
    6. What are you currently reading?
    1. I’m rereading books 4 & 5 of ASOIAF using a proposed merged reading order for chronology’s sake. This is the first time I’m reading the physical books, having listened to Roy Dotrice’s excellent audiobooks before. The reading order has been great so far. http://boiledleather.com/post/24543217702/a-proposed-a-feast-for-crows-a-dance-with-dragons
    7. Do you like it so far?
    1. Reread, so…..
    8. How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?
    1. The set of ASOIAF books was bought for me for my birthday last month. The last book I bought and read was The Shadow of the Torturer. I bought it six months back and read it last month.
    9. What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?
    1. Hate to repeat myself, so see above.
    10. What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why?
    1. This changes with the wind. Just a few years ago I couldn’t get into high fantasy on the page and now I’m very much into it. I love a good space opera for the elements of humanity or at least people placed into the harshest possible environments, not to mention the frequent upheaval of power structures.
    11. What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?
    1. I’m very selective about horror and find much of it utterly unfulfilling. I’ve never seen the appeal of urban fantasy, though I love Mieville’s Perdido Street Station, so maybe I’m just very select there as well.
    12. What is your favorite electronic reading device?
    1. I like the feel of the kobo sized like a MMP, but I’ve never actually read a book on one.
    13. What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?
    1. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, but I’ve not yet read it.
    14. Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?
    1. Oh hell no. Print, eBook, audio. Just read!
    15. Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?
    1. Almost. I read comics on the computer as well, but I primarily read digital books on a Nexus 7 tablet.
Oh damn, I’m done. Time to write, slacker!

  5. 1. Shadows By E.C. Blake.
    2. Inheritance by Steven Savile (it was boring).
    3. The Legends of Drizzt: The Collected Stories by R.A. Salvatore. This is hard as I don’t tend to read other people’s opinions about books that often, but I do know that with this author most people either love or hate him.
    4. Dune by Frank Herbert. Once again this is a hard one, I didn’t hate it but I don’t love it like I know tons of people do.
    5. With two kids I am lucky to get an hour of reading done at night.
    6. The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle.
    7. On the fence, it’s almost too much like the movie (same writer for both).
    9. Robin Hobbs Fool’s Assassin.
    10. Epic Fantasy. Who doesn’t like getting sucked into an epic battle against evil.
    11. Romance(in any of its sub-forms in sf/f/h), I’m a typical guy I hate all the blah blah kiss, blah blah cry.
    12. I hate ereaders, but when I have to read them for reviews I use Kindle app.
    13. I’ve never paid for one. Last one I reviewed was The Freezer by Timothy S.Johnston.
    14. I read physical by choice and pleasure. I read ebooks if that’s the only format available for review purposes.
    15. iphone.

  6. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?

    China Mieville’s PERDIDO STREET STATION.

What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?

I finish just about everything I begin. I love that feeling of crushing desperation I get from finishing a bad book. It makes good books that much more enjoyable. It’s like repeatedly smashing your face against a brick wall – it feels so good when you stop.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?

Probably A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. People either love it or hate it. I absolutely loved it.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?

I don’t know, but I can tell you which will be the next: See my response below about what I’m currently reading. I might make a lot of enemies when I finally write my book review.

How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?

I read in short snippets, usually 20-30 minutes or so. If I’m reading for hours, it’s because I’m sick.

    What are you currently reading?

I’m reading the ARC of David Mitchell’s THE BONE CLOCKS

Do you like it so far?

I’m thoroughly unimpressed, for the most part, but there is a good section in the middle about Iraq. Maybe it will get better. I hope so. I hate 3/4 main characters so far and am finding it difficult to believe their motives and struggles. Mitchell just seems to be trying too hard to make his characters “cool” and it shows. It feels disingenuous to me.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?

I won it in a Goodreads giveaway maybe 3 weeks ago, which is a miracle. I never win giveaways.

What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?

THERE IS NO LOVELY END by Patty Templeton. I’ve heard Patty read from the pre-release version several times and am smitten by what I’ve heard. Unfortunately, it might be a little while before I get to it as it’s several books down in my “to be read” stack.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why?

Hard Science Fiction. Mostly because I’m amazed by the fact that people can actually write this stuff. I don’t know that I *like* it the most so much as I respect it the most. As far as liking goes, give me something Lovecraftian/Samuelsesque/Ligottish and dark. I have this little “reading goth” that lives behind my heart. He’s always hungry for a good read . . .

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?

Steampunk. Because there’s little “punk” about steampunk. Mieville’s book was a welcome exception. I rant about the lack of punk in steampunk here: http://forrestaguirre.blogspot.com/2012/08/whats-so-punk-about-steampunk.html

What is your favorite electronic reading device?

    Google Nexus.

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?

“Bought” as in acquired (i.e., it was free): Dunsany’s THE GODS OF PEGANA.

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?

Nope. Though I prefer physical books. I like the heft, the smell, the texture. I’m a kinesthetic and visual learner, so I prefer physical books. Still, I do read E-books, particularly graphic novels.

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?

Yep. Just me and my tablet.

  7. What I’d like to know is when and why did horror go from being it’s own genre and get lumped into SF and Fantasy (which, by the way, were also separate genres until the late 1980s or later). Why this conglomeration of genres?

It varies too much. Sci-fi maybe space opera, hard sci-fi and post-Singularity. Fantasy epic or grimdark.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?

Steampunk. I don’t find the meshing of the two genres works well.

What is your favorite electronic reading device?

    My Kindle Paprewhite.

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?

    “Assail” by Ian C. Esslemont.

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?

Almost exclusively electronic now. Most physical books are left overs on the reading pile or lush hardbacks.

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?

Majority on the Kindle Paperwhite. When commuting I’ll read snippets via the Kindle App on my mobile phone.

  14. 1. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?

    Scale-Bright by Benjanun Sriduangkaew

    2. What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?

Nexus, by Ramez Naam. I put it down and forgot I had it sitting around.

    3. What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?

the novelization of the Godzilla movie. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it, especially since the movie was unwatchably bad.

    4. What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?

That Wakulla Springs Hugo nom novella.

    5. How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?

As long as possible. Ideally at least an hour.

    6. What are you currently reading?

Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer and Gleam by Tom Fletcher

7.Do you like it so far?

Acceptance – Yes! but it is far more cerebral than I was expecting. I will need to start it again from the beginning for what’s happening to sink into my thick skull. I’m a huge Vandermeer fan.

Gleam – meh. Pace is way to fast, but it feels like it reads very slow.

8.How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?

Got Acceptance about a week ago. Gleam was a review copy provided by Jo Fletcher books, it arrived in the mail maybe 2-3 weeks ago.

9.What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?

    Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer

    10. What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why?
Space Opera. Just really like it.

    11. What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?
    Paranormal Romance. yuck.

    12. What is your favorite electronic reading device?
I can read on my kindle touch and my phone. I would not call either of these a “favorite electronic reading device”, because I only use them when a physical book or document doesn’t exist for me to read from. reading electronically isn’t reading, it’s “looking”.

    13. What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?
Probably my subscription to Apex Magazine. the vast majority of things i read electronically are e-arcs, other items for review, or amazon freebies.

    14. Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?
    no

    15. Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?
no. use kindle and phone. I always have my phone with me, but i don’t always have my kindle with me.

  15. last finished reading: “Matter” by Iain M. Banks

did not finish: “The Man Who Counts” by Poul Anderson. Too pulpish and simplistic with respect to character.

liked but most people didn’t: don’t know, maybe I mainly read popular books

disliked but most people liked: Parasite, Mira Grant ( I gather this is generally popular)

1-sittig reading sessions last an hour or 2

Currently reading “The Rest is Noise” by Alex Ross and “The James Deans” by Reed Farrel Coleman.

The Ross is fascinating but I need to leave it periodically for more popular fare; just started the Coleman

Both books were bought 4-5 years ago

Last physical sf/f/h book purchase: “Jupiter War” by Neal Asher, a few days ago

subgenre I like best: probably smart modern space opera, if that’s a subgenre

subgenre I dislike most: there are a bunch I have zero interst in, including paranormal romance, since I’m a middle-aged male who doesn’t read romances… I love Tolkien’s work but really dislike a lot of its imitations, which seem pointless

    Favourite device: Kindle paperwhite

last sf/f/h ebook bought: Mark Clifton “megapack”

I read mainly physical books, but also ebooks… probably about 90% physical

I read ebooks on multiple devices, pc and ipad as well as Kindle

  16. Interesting questions, here are my answers:

    1. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
    – FOOL’S ASSASSIN by ROBIN HOBB – loved it!

    2. What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?
    – THE EMPEROR’S KNIFE by MAZARKIS WILLIAMS –> I read about half of the story but never got into it. I didn’t care what happened to the characters as I found most of them pretty one-dimensional and boring. Also the story wasn’t as exciting as I thought, the description sounded pretty good. But there was no tension and nothing that made me want to read on.

    3. What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?
    – maybe GARDENS OF THE MOON by STEVEN ERIKSON. I know the series has lots of fans (including me) but I also know many people who didn’t get past the first book.

    4. What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?

    AMERICAN GODS by NEIL GAIMAN

What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
‘Red seas under red skies’ by Scott Lynch
What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?
‘Wool’ Interesting start, but it got a bit too long winded for me, lost interest in what happened
What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?
Don’t know if most people didn’t like them, but i quite liked the paradox trilogy by Rachel Bach. Those deserve more attention.
What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?
‘Equus’ by Charles Stross. Had great hopes for it, but it didn’t deliver to me, was astounded when it won the Hugo.

    3-4 hrs

Vampires and Zombies, overused and of little interest
What is your favorite electronic reading device?

‘Red seas under Red skies’ by Scott Lynch
Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?
    no
Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?
No, I read on the device most readily availible

  20. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
Blood Oath – it’s about the President’s Vampire. It was entertaining but too heavy into the superstition/Urban Fantasy for me

What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?
For Honor We Stand – H. Paul Honsinger. It’s not because of the book; I love the story so far. I ended up having a lot of distractions which kept me from continuing with the book. Now it’s somewhere in my cube at work.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?
A lot of my friends didn’t like The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan but I love it.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?
Harry Potter. There, I said it.

How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?
When I get into a reading session, usually several hours. I have a hard time reading in short bursts except for comic book reading

    What are you currently reading?
I want to finish For Honor We Stand, but I keep forgetting it at work. So I’ve started Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner.

Do you like it so far?
I’m having a bit of a hard time reading Swordspoint. I don’t read a lot of fantasy.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?
Several years ago, which is why I decided to read it.

What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?
I buy 99 percent of my books in physical form

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why?
Military scifi is probably my favorite

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?
Urban Fantasy. I want to like it, but it’s too much the superstition/witches/vampires/shapeshifters for me. I would love to read books like what Trudi Canavan writes but take place in the present or future. Oh and them not be focused towards teenagers.

What is your favorite electronic reading device?
I probably use my smartphone the most but like kindle the best

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?
I get stuff like Lightspeed as e format

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?
    Mostly physical

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?
    Either smartphone or tablet

  21. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?

    Blood Price by Tanya Huff

What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?

I rarely don’t finish books once I start reading them.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?

Can’t really think of one. Either I agreed with the majority or they weren’t well-known enough to generate a widespread consensual opinion.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?

The Crimson Campaign. I found the two main characters insufferable.

How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?

I rarely have time to sit down and read for long periods anymore, I’m usually reading in 5-20 minute increments.

    What are you currently reading?

Currently in the middle of a few:
    Blindsight by Peter Watts
The Misenchanted Sword by Lawrence Watt-Evans
    Dark Jenny by Alex Bledsoe

Do you like it so far?
Blindsight–I generally like this kind of “ensemble cast of experts tries to solve alien mystery”, and this is no exception, but Watts does a lot less handholding than most.

Misenchanted Sword–For a fantasy work of its era (mid-80s), it holds up quite well. The setting could have been pulled from a D&D game taking place on any college campus right now, but the main character is kind of an everyman pulled into circumstances beyond his ken. He’s a refreshing change from all the Chosen Ones, determined adolescents, badass anti-heroes, and political schemers the genre’s become bloated with.

Dark Jenny–It’s basically Guinevere’s trial from the Arthurian legends as a hard-boiled detective story. It’s fun, though.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?

Those are all library books. The last book I bought and read was probably Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch.

What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?

Picked up Kameron Hurley’s Mirror Empire just a couple of days ago.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why?

Probably sword and sorcery. I don’t read as much in it as some other genres, but I almost always like it. It’s easy for epic fantasy to fail to live up to its promises, but with S&S, the stakes are usually lower so as long as there’s a couple of compelling characters who get up to hijinks I’m probably good.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?

Urban fantasy, but mostly that Anita Blake/Dresden Files school of UF with first-person narration, a character who’s some kind of hired gun in our modern world with multiple supernatural societies, etc. I spent over a decade playing World of Darkness RPGs and don’t really want to read a whole series of novels about someone else’s awesome character.

What is your favorite electronic reading device?

    Android tablet.

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?

The Einstein Intersection by Samuel R. Delany.

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?

It’s roughly 50/50 at this point.

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?

Mostly on my Android tablet; will read on my PC or smartphone if I’m really desperate.

1.What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading? – depending on whether you count literary writers turning to dystopian fiction then it would be J by Howard Jacobson, otherwise it would be the very intriguing horror debut by Josh malerman- Birdbox. both very highly recommended
2.What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why? Descent by Ken Macleod- I couldn’t stand the Scottish dialogue which didn’t feel right to me, despite Macleod being a Scottish author. Something just didn’t feel right with it.

11.What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why? Urban fantasy
12.What is your favorite electronic reading device? Kindle Fire
13.What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought? I downloaded an Ebook version of Jeff Vandermeers Annihilation on Friday to take advantage of the 24 hr free offer in the UK, so the last I bought/paid for was The Dragon Master and Other Stories by Jack Vance
14.Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)? No
15.Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?
I would normally read Ebooks on the Kindle Fire but I may experiment with the Kindle app on our new laptop to see how it reads.

  23. 1.What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
    READY PLAYER ONE

2.What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?
THE HUMAN DIVISION – It seemed I had read/met these characters before. Nothing new as far as characterizations. Seems to be a problem with Scalzi’s more recent books.

3.What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?
Star Trek – Immortal Coil. Fans of ST loved it, other SF readers look down upon ST it seems.

4.What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?
Interrupt – It just did not work for me.

5.How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last? 30 – 45 minutes

9.What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought? The Stars at War 2

10.What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why? Science fiction – epic for the most part. Not near future, usually space based type of thing, with aliens please.

14.Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)? Mostly electronic

15.Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)? Mostly on my Kindle

  24. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
    Scale-Bright by Benjanun Sriduangkaew

How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?
1-2 hours. Occasionnally I take a whole afternoon to myself.

    What are you currently reading?
The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter by Rod Duncan

Do you like it so far?
Yes. So far I’m enjoying the world and gutsy main character, but it is early in the book.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?
I bought and read the last one right away, last week. Scale-Bright was one of those can’t-put-it-down books.

What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought?
The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why?
I like new, weird, feminist type books and anything with an Asian flavour (especially Chinese). Strong female characters are a must, and LGBT and diversity are a bonus.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why?
I’m not usually fond of Urban Fantasy. I like secondary worlds as the basis of the setting. I also like historical settings. Exception to this is settings in non-European or non-North American locations. I like to use fiction to experience beyond the confines of the world I live in.

What is your favorite electronic reading device?
    I read on my iPad.

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought?
Scale-Bright by Benjanun Sriduangkaew. I’m currently borrowing Rod Duncan’s The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter from my local library in ebook form.

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)?
No, I like to read both physically and electronically.

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)?
Yes, I read them only on my iPad mini.

  25. What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading? THE BEAUTIFUL LAND by Alan Averill

What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why? SPIN THE SKY by Katy Stauber. It never took off for me.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t? I don’t know how many books I read that most people don’t like, because I look at reviews a lot. Maybe KINDRED OF DARKNESS by Barbara Hambly, since most people seem to have forgotten about her at this point; too bad.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did? THE GOBLIN EMPEROR by Sarah Addison. Too slow.

How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last? Usually I read during my lunch hour. Sadly, I don’t get to read much longer than that, usually.

What are you currently reading? DANGEROUS WOMEN ed. by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois. A SUDDEN LIGHT by Garth Stein.

Do you like it so far? Some of the stories in the anthology are very good. The Garth Stein is just good enough to keep me reading, so far.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)? DANGEROUS WOMEN is from the library, A SUDDEN LIGHT is an e-ARC. The last book I bought that I’ve finished is TURBULENCE by Samit Basu and I bought that about a month ago.

What was the last physical sf/f/h book you bought? Today at lunch I will buy the last two books in Jeff Vandermeer’s new series, AUTHORITY and ACCEPTANCE. Also hoping that CITY OF STAIRS by Robert Jackson Bennett has come in so I can buy that.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you like the most and why? That’s a really hard question. I suppose fantasy still edges everything else out, but books like THE MIRROR EMPIRE by Kameron Hurley, FOOL’S ASSASSIN by Robin Hobb, and HILD by Nicola Griffith all count as fantasy to me. For some reason that’s the genre that I find most immersive and relaxing.

What is the sf/f/h sub-genre you dislike the most and why? If I can use horror, then that- except for realllly good horror! Also, I’ve found almost no paranormal romance I like.

What is your favorite electronic reading device? I only use my galaxy tablet, which is glitchy right now and panicking me because of the e-galleys I have on it.

What was the last sf/f/h eBook you bought? I only do galleys with ebooks. Just requested GENOME by Sergei Lukyanenko.

Do you read books exclusively in 1 format (physical/electronic)? I read paper unless I’m doing review of some galleys. I also read more e-galleys when I travel.

Do you read eBooks exclusively on a single device (eBook reader/ smartphone / tablet)? Yes, just the tablet, although I’m wondering about that right now- do I need to replace it? I’m morally opposed to Kindles, though, and am not sure what the right choice would be.

  26. Zdeslav Benzon // September 9, 2014 at 4:41 am //

What was the last sf/f/h book you finished reading?
Memory of Water by Emmi Itaranta

What was the last sf/f/h book you did not finish reading and why?
Redshirts by John Scalzi. I almost always finish my books, because I tend to carefully pick what to read, but this Hugo winner had been real dissapointment.

What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you liked but most people didn’t?
All Those Vanished Engines by Paul Park. It’s very interesting book, somewhat Wolfeian, but not an easy read.
What was the last sf/f/h book you read that you disliked but most people did?
    Probably Redshirts.
How long do your 1-sitting reading sessions usually last?
Depends, from 5 minutes to few hours.

    What are you currently reading?
Bring the Jubilee by Ward Moore (physical book) and Year’s Best SF, new one by Dozois (ebook)

Do you like it so far?
    Yes.

How long ago did you buy the book you are currently reading (or the last book you read)?
Ward Moore few years ago, but this is a reread.
