Sunday Cinema: Aelita Queen of Mars (1924)

While I’m traveling back from Armadillocon, you get to enjoy this silent film directed by Soviet filmmaker Yakov Protazanov. Released in 1924, it was the first Soviet Science Fiction film and is based on Alexei Tolstoy’s novel Aelita. Here, Soviets understake an expedition to Mars where a young man leads a popular uprising against the ruling group of Elders. Fortunately he has the support of Queen Aelita, who has fallen in love with him after watching him through a telescope. Like you do…
Enjoy!
