Thursday YouTube: ‘White Rabbit’ and Star Trek

We always knew the original Star Trek was a bit trippy, now here’s proof. A music video of Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’, starring the cast of classic Trek. Psychedelic! Too bad I’m not a big Airplane, or ‘White Rabbit’ fan…

  1. What a mashup trip down memory lane! I started the tenth grade the year Star Trek premiered in 1966 and Surrealistic Pillow came out early in 1967 so the blending of these two blasts from the past is perfect. These were very exciting times – the music coming out of San Francisco and LA was changing everything. Science fiction was going through the whole New Wave war. Pop culture was exploding with new ideas.

This little video is probably funny to most people now but ST and JA were revolutionaries at the time.

  2. I think JA and ST go together exceptionally well. Some of the things that happened on ST seem so ’60s, they just mesh well with the song.

Even though I am not a fan of much of the music from the ’60s, I do see how different some of it was from what came before, and how the New Wave reflected that in science fiction form.

I did enjoy the video though. Very trippy.
