  • Torchwood is back for season 3! Sort of. Instead of a normal 13-episode season (is 13 the norm for British TV shows? Life on Mars ran for 8…), it will have a single five episode story arc, possibly to air on consecutive nights as a ‘mini-series’. How….odd. What does that say about the ratings?
  • Massively interviews Jon Van Caneghem, president of Trion World Network. You may be asking: Who? Why again? Trion are the people behind the upcoming MMO designed for the Sci Fi Channel and its, as yet unnamed, TV show tie-in. Very interesting.
  • SF Universe gives us a preview of the new ABC Family Channel show The Middleman, which they describe as: “three parts Austin Powers, two parts Men In Black, one part X-Files all mixed together with just a touch of Gilmore Girls.” All of that sounds good, except the Gilmore Girls part. It airs on June 16th at 8:00pm. I may have to fire up the old DVR just to see what this is like. But if there’s too much soap, I’m out.
  • MediaLoper tells us why ABC should give up on their Life on Mars re-make. And, after seeing the trailer and reading his reasons, I have to agree that things aren’t looking good. The part about American TV being ‘open-ended’ (John?) series-wise is a good point. Witness LOST, which didn’t revive until they had an end date. Life on Mars needs an endgame to work toward and it shouldn’t be a lame comedic take on 1970’s procedurals, which is what the trailers look like. Might I recommend, if you can, you track down seasons 1 and 2 of the BBC Life on Mars. You won’t be disappointed.
  • AOL released a poll this past Tuesday that named Pushing Daisies as the favorite new show of TV viewers. While I’m not sure it’s my favorite new show, I think I like Chuck just a smidge better, Pushing Daisies is a fine show. If you haven’t seen it, you owe it to yourself to head over to ABC’s site and watch a few episodes. Quirky doesn’t even begin to cover it and how could you possibly not like a show where two of the characters sing They Might Be Giants‘ “Birdhouse in Your Soul” and it actually makes sense with the story?
  • Darth Mojo is back, this time detailing the lighting of the Demetrius for Battlestar Galactica. Awesome stuff. If only we all could have cool jobs like this.

  1. A 5 episode arc eh?

Let’s hope it’s composed of nothing but RTD and the BBC Director General apologising and begging for forgiveness

  2. Presumably they’re going for:

    (a) A broadcasting “event”

    (b) Some similarity to Old Who.

Either way I bet it’s rubbish.

Next there will be a reality show picking the new Torchwood team members with John Barrowman on the judging panel saying “That’s what I want as a leading man!”

  3. I thought Torchwood’s first season was pretty forgettable, but the second season was really good. I was looking forward to season 3. Oh well.
