News Ticker

Tube Bits for 10/13/2008

  • Good news and bad news for Galactica fans: The DVDs of Season 4 are set to be released on January 6th (good), but Season 4 will actually be split into two DVD releases (bad). Gee, thanks Sci Fi, way to milk the show for as much cash as you can get.
  • Pablo Defendi from Tor.com reviews the first episode of the American version of Life on Mars. I had much the same reaction has he, but I also felt the American show felt rushed, probably due to the fact that the U.S. show has about 15 less minutes to tell the story. Still, cautiously optimistic, but the part about a more convoluted reason to the ‘time travel’ isn’t endearing.
  • The producers of Life on Mars have said that the new show will diverge quickly from the storyline of the BBC version. It will have to as the British version ran for only two seasons before wrapping things up. You can’t do that in the ‘who knows when it will be canceled’ landscape of American TV so they’ll have to vamp. Lets hope they can do that better then the writers of LOST.
  • Despite poor ratings, both Knight Rider and The Sarah Connor Chronicles have picked up orders for additional scripts. Not a lot of new ones, a few, but still new orders. I can’t see either making it past this season.
  • ABC is jumping on the SF TV remake bandwagon and is working on a new version of the hit ’80’s show, V. Of course they just have to change things to fit with the times so out is the Holocaust/Nazi themes and in is the Dept. of Homeland Security. I am not impressed.
  • While it may have bombed at the box office, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a big hit on Cartoon Network, especially among kids. And after watching part of the first, I can see why. Its perfect for 9-12 year olds.
  • And finally, if you just couldn’t stand watching the original Star Trek on the CBS site, you can now watch full episodes in ‘glorious’ YouTube format on YouTube! Great, because who doesn’t like watching ads or having no embed ability? Nice job CBS.
