GIVEAWAY: Win a Copy of ‘The Strain’ by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan

SF Signal has 2 copies of the vampire novel The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan to be given away to two lucky readers!

What’s the book about? here’s the description from Amazon:

A Boeing 777 arrives at JFK and is on its way across the tarmac, when it suddenly stops dead. All window shades are pulled down. All lights are out. All communication channels have gone quiet. Crews on the ground are lost for answers, but an alert goes out to the CDC. Dr. Eph Goodweather, head of their Canary project, a rapid-response team that investigates biological threats, gets the call and boards the plane. What he finds makes his blood run cold.

In a pawnshop in Spanish Harlem, a former professor and survivor of the Holocaust named Abraham Setrakian knows something is happening. And he knows the time has come, that a war is brewing . . .

So begins a battle of mammoth proportions as the vampiric virus that has infected New York begins to spill out into the streets. Eph, who is joined by Setrakian and a motley crew of fighters, must now find a way to stop the contagion and save his city–a city that includes his wife and son–before it is too late.

If that doesn’t stoke your interest, check out this awesome book trailer or read an excerpt.

  1. One question. Why only U.S. residents?

  2. I believe it’s to cut down on the publisher cost of sending the book overseas.

  3. Then one further question.

It would be ridiculously rare, that the winner wouldn’t be from the US. Why alienate your non-US readers for such a small cost?

And believe me, I am feeling a little alienated here. I’d like to participate. And I am not happy, that I can’t.

  4. The intent is not to alienate anyone — this is the restriction set forth by the publisher who is providing and mailing the prize.

  5. I realize the intent is not to alienate anyone, but it’s still the result.

Would it be possible for you to chip in the extra cost, if a non-American won?

And if not, why are you supporting a company, that’s so — you know.

  6. That’s actually a good suggestion…I’ll discuss it with publishers in the future.
