Description: While exploring planet P3R-636, the SG-1 team comes across a troop of Jaffa warriors and priests delivering Naquadah, an element treasured by the Goa’uld, through the Stargate, but are captured and forced to slave in the Naquadah mines.
I seem to have missed this one the first time through season 2, probably because the description does absolutely nothing for me. I’m not sure what to expect.
I see the people of this world use Mayan hieroglyphs instead of Egyptian. That’s cool. And Daniel certainly seems to end up in the sarcophagus an awful lot. Good thing it can bring people back from the dead or Daniel would be left back in season 1.
Oh Daniel, you certainly are the charmer aren’t you. That makes me laugh, he’s so uncomfortable with the whole ‘romance’ thing. The writers seem to be going for the humor here and it certainly makes for some amusing interaction between Jackson and the rest of SG-1. Ha! At least at first. The whole multiple use of the sarcophagus thing takes an unexpected turn.
So, this is an odd episode. Humorous at first, with a quick foray into bizarre Daniel then veering off into an after school special about drug addiction and withdrawal. And after a quick detox, Daniel winds up back to normal. I think I liked it better when they were going for humor. Otherwise, not so much.
[After capture and being brought before the ruler]
Jaffa Soldier – “On your knees!”
O’Neill – “No, actually I’ve got this cartilage problem, a little ACL thing.”
(Soldier kicks O’Neill in the back of the knee
O’Neill (strained) – “Ahhh! Yeah, that helps.”
[After being dumped in the mines, Carter explains her Goa’uld sense]
Carter – “Lately I, I get this weird feeling when I’m near Teal’c.”
O’Neill – “Hey, who doesnt?”
