Description: A solar flare propels the SG-1 team to a military facility back to 1969.
As we all know, if there is a science fiction show on TV somewhere it is universal law that it must have at least one time travel episode. SG-1 has played with alternate realities but this is it’s version of time travel. Due to that pesky Sun, a solar flare sends SG-1 back in time to Cheyenne Mountain in 1969. All sorts of hilarity ensues as O’Neill and pals try to find their way back home.
It’s a good thing this is a light episode, played for some laughs as it has a lot of niggling little things in it that really bug me. But! There’s a lot of great character interaction here that cover that up and besides, if the writers aren’t taking this one too seriously, neither should I.
It’s worth it just to see Teal’c as a hippy and his interactions with others of that nature. Good stuff right there. In fact, Teal’c pretty much steals a lot of this episode. Watch it for what it is, you should enjoy it.
[O’Neill being interrogated.]
Thornbird – “I’m Major Robert Thornbird. And you are?”
Jack O’Neill – “[coughs] Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise.” (See? Star Trek was already on TV for two years at this point. And with 20+ million watching each episode, you’d think some knowledge of Trek would infiltrate into the military… — Ed.)
Thornbird – “Your dogtags say otherwise.”
O’Neill – “They’re lying.”
[Further in the interrogation.]
Thornbird – “Our cameras saw some sort of weapon.”
O’Neill – “Oh, well it’s hard to say.”
Thornbird – “Some sort of state secret?”
Jack O’Neill – “No. Just difficult to pronounce.”
[After escaping from the military.]
Jackson – “So what’s the plan?”
O’Neill – “Find the stargate.”
Jackson – “Find the stargate? That, that’s the plan?”
O’Neill – “Elegant in its simplicity, don’t you think?”
