Description: While exploring BP6-3Q1, O’Neill and the SG-1 team are attacked by giant insects.
First things first, that description is really short and, while accurate, could be more descriptive. The second thing I thought was “No! Not the flying plastic vomit creatures from Star Trek!!!” Well, it isn’t the flying plastic vomit creatures, but they are nasty flying bugs. Ugh.
So, “Bane” is a Teal’c centered episode, based on technobabble where his DNA is being ‘re-written’ by an alien virus. But of course all will be well in the end, with no lasting side effects. And yes, Teal’c turns out to be just the incubator for the alien bugs so they can reproduce and take over the world! (Just like Brain. Hmmm, Bane, Brain, coincidence?) Plus, water gun fight!
Overall, it’s really not a bad episode. There’s some good character moments here, Mayborn is terrifically slimy (and condescending and oily and…) and Teal’c intimidating alley thugs is quite good and Teal’c makes a friend. I’d put this into the ‘better than many of the others’ category.
[O’Neill learns that Mayborn is authorized to remove Teal’c, to study the alien venom]
O’Neill – “He saved your smarmy ass and everyone else on this planet! Does that not count for anything in your world?”
Mayborn – “Absolutely. And I am thrilled to get the chance to thank him personally.”
O’Neill – “General Hammond, request permission to beat the crap out of this man.”
[Mayborn and O’Neill square off after Teal’c’s escape]
Mayborn – “Striking an officer is a quick way to a court martial.”
O’Neill – “I’m not going to hit you Mayborn. I’m gonna shoot you.”
