Description: During a visit to the Air Force Academy, Maj. Samantha Carter makes the acquaintance of Jennifer Hailey, a promising young cadet with a rebellious streak.
I think is some respects this season of SG-1 is a victim of itself. With such stand out episodes as “Window of Opportunity” and “Scorched Earth” the rest of the episodes have a very high bar to live up to. And by definition, the non-stand out ones seem somehow even less in comparison, even if they aren’t that bad.
“Prodigy” is a good example. While it isn’t a bad episode (it’s rather decent) it suffers against what you know SG-1 really can be. I’m not trying to blast this episode, in fact I found it a bit above average. There is some really nice interaction here with some good lines, but the Hailey storyline just didn’t seem to go anywhere and is never really resolved while the ‘moon’ storyline is also left open ended. This one is almost crying out to be made into a two-parter.
One nice thing they did do is get former Chief of Staff General Ryan for a cameo. Nice! Otherwise, another decent but not stellar episode.
