RIP: Robert Holdstock (1948-2009)

Sad news…

Ansible reports that Robert Holdstock has died at age 61:

Robert Holdstock (1948-2009) died at 4am in the morning of Sunday 29 November, having been in intensive care since his collapse with E. coli infection on the 18th . He was only 61 and will be much missed. All sympathy to Sarah and the rest of the family.

Holdstock was perhaps best known for his Mythago Wood cycle, for which he won the World Fantasy Award in 1985.

  1. At first the name was only registering on the outer edge of my memories, but once you mentioned Mythago Wood I could immediately picture the cool book covers.  61!  That is way too young to pass away, and I don’t just feel that because it is a mere twenty years older than I am. 

    My prayers go out to his family and friends during this time of grief.  Any time one passes early it is tragic, and it feels even more so during the holiday season.  God grant them grace and peace.  I’m so sorry to read this.
