As is typical nowadays, your big budget science fiction movies always seem to have a video game released to coincide with the movie, no doubt to increase the hype. Almost inevitably, these video games are little more than dreck warmed over. TRON: Legacy is no exception to the video game treatment rule. The game for the movie is called TRON: Evolution and takes place between the first movie and the new one. Here’s some PR speak for you:
TRON: Evolution is an immersive 3rd person action game that pulls players onto the digital grid of TRON. Explore TRON’s cities using free running mobility, navigate among unique rebel factions, and fight an epic battle against a dictator’s seemingly unstoppable army as the powerful System Monitor. Seamlessly connect from single player story mode into 10 person multiplayer battles with martial arts inspired light disc combat and thrilling light cycle chases in the prequel story to the highly anticipated film, TRON: Legacy.
The game is a third person RPG-ish game with a lot of vehicle combat. And while the reviews are middling to poor, the game certainly looks great. If you just can’t wait for the movie, the game might help to tide you over. Check it out…
But, if you want a TRON video game that is really pretty good, try and track down a copy of TRON 2.0, which also tells the story of what happens after the first film, but obviously not in canonical way.
