Catching Up on SciFi Movies (Part 19): Paul / Green Lantern / The Avengers

Continuing a trend tailor-made for the Twitter generation, here are my quick takes on a few recently-watched genre-related films.

Quick thoughts follow…

  • Paul (2011) – A SciFi comedy that seems so connected to geek culture should be funnier than even a weak epsiode of Big Bang Theory. While the caharcters were likable, the laughs were sadly few and far between.
  • Green Lantern (2011) – Because of mixed buzz surrounding this DC superhero film, I went in with low expectations and was surprised to find that it didn’t suck. Sure, no one element (like acting or special effects) was outstanding, but it did offer a welll-paced origin story.
  • The Avengers (2012) – A story that doesn’t slow down, smartly plotted, witty dialogue that doesn’t overdo it and non-stop action. What more could you ask from a superhero film?
