  1. Great to read Arnie Fenner’s brief tribute to Frank Frazetta on what would have been his 85th birthday. The three volume set of art book/bios by Cathy and Arnie Fenner are amazing books for fans of Frazetta’s work. They are loving tributes that are well worth owning.

I’m happy to see independent bookstores cropping up, but was thankful to see that article was not one celebrating the demise of Barnes and Noble. I saw a lot of rejoicing among those devoted to the independents when Borders closed and felt saddened by what to me is a too narrow viewpoint on what it means to see bookstores closing. What I contended with the closing of Borders is as true for the closing of Barnes and Noble stores: independent stores will not crop up every place that a BN used to be and I find the idea of any town/city being devoid of a brick and mortar bookstore to be very sad.

Okay, on back-to-back days now you’ve been given reviews of First Shift (by myself and today by Tim C. Ward). Are you guys convinced yet? Are you reading Hugh Howey?

Alexander Jannson’s art really is whimsical, and quite fun. Thanks for that link.
