What’s special about today’s free fiction?
- Tor has a fantasy story excerpted from xo Orpheus: Fifty New Myths
War rages on, and Drona is its heart.
Some songs tell of good wars, kind wars, wars where, when the fighting’s over, you sit alone in the woods and breathe and think, this was good, this thing I’ve done. I have saved lives, I have served my king, I am the man I always hoped to be. Drona’s heard these songs; he’s never seen the wars they mean.
– “Drona’s Death” by Max Gladstone
- AE has a science fiction short short story from Geoff Gander
George? It’s Amanda. How are you holding out? Good. No one else is picking up anymore. Is your radio on? Satellite? That’s good — more stations that way. No, don’t go to your car; too exposed. Stay away from the windows, too.
– “White Noise”
- Boxcars711 Old Time Radio has a two-part radio show from 1952: Tom Corbett Space Cadet – Danger In Deep Space
- My post-apocalyptic novel, After The Fires Went Out: Coyote, can be downloaded free from Story Cartel in exchange for a review.
There was a moment right after The Fires went out when I thought Fiona and I were the only people left for a thousand miles around. It looked as though the whole world had burned, the air surrounding us so hot that it felt like even the water of Lillabelle Lake was close to boiling. I had trouble imagining that anyone else could have survived.
