Cover & Synopsis: DEFENDERS by Will McIntosh

Here’s the cover cover art and synopsis of the upcoming (May 13, 2014) novel Defenders by Will McIntosh, an extension of his short fiction story. Defenders has also been optioned for film.

Here’s the synopsis:

When Earth is invaded by telepathic aliens, humanity responds by creating the defenders. They are the perfect warriors–seventeen feet tall, knowing and loving nothing but war, their minds closed to the aliens. The question is, what do you do with millions of genetically-engineered warriors once the war is won?

A novel of power, alliances, violence, redemption, sacrifice, and yearning for connection, DEFENDERS presents a revolutionary story of invasion, occupation, and resistance.

This is not the part where I say our review copy came in this week, neener-nenner-neeeeener. 🙂

  1. Wait a sec. In the short story, the Defenders were giant robots with hastily-programmed “minds” that were inscrutable to the Luyten because they were _machines_–and the story was driven by the fact that the Defenders’ specialized warbot minds ultimately couldn’t adapt to peacetime life. Why the hell make them bioneered giants?!

  2. optioned for film? AWESOME!!!!

also, I will not brag that I received an ARC of this as well. Paul, remember on twitter I mentioned I got something incredible from Orbit? This what I was talking about.

  3. After loving Love Minus Eighty, I really cannot wait for this! I haven’t been able to get hold of an ARC copy (yet!!) so I’m intensely jealous of you guys…

Hopefully, another novel for Will McIntosh to perhaps become more popular already?

  4. I’m very excited about this one. Love Minus Eighty was my favorite novel of 2013 and it will be great to see what he has done next.
