George R.R. Martin is Developing the Science Fiction Drama “Captain Cosmos” with HBO

Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that George R.R. Martin is developing a new science fiction drama with HBO.

George R.R. Martin is no stranger to HBO, of course. Game of Thrones, based on Martin’s A Song of Icce and Fire fantasy book series, is a worldwide sensation. This new show, however, will be a science fiction show.

The new series is a period drama called Captain Cosmos and “centers on a young science fiction writer in 1949, at the dawn of the TV age”. The series is to be co-produced by Martin and Z Nation coexecutive producer Michael Cassutt, who is also an author. Cassutt is writing the series, which is still in the early stages of its development.

I’m excited to see what devlops from this. For some reason, it’s conjuring images of Captain Future.

My favorite tv credit for Michael Cassutt is Max Headroom, where he was a writer and story editor. Unfortunately the show was cancelled while Martin’s satirical Christmas-themed episode was in pre-production. These guys working together (again) has to be worth checking out.
