Sunday Cinema: “Red Planet Mars” (1952) Starring Peter Graves and Andrea King

“Joey, do you like movies about gladiators on Mars?”

The 1952 SciFi film Red Planet Mars is based on a 1932 play called Red Planet by John L. Balderston and John Hoare. The film stars Peter Graves and Andrea King.

Red Planet Mars is about an astronomer who obtains images of Mars suggesting that intelligent life exists there. Concurrently, a colleague claims to have contacting Mars and says that Mars is a tecnologically advanced post-scarcity utopia fueled by nuclear power, but without the threat of nuclear war. (I lied about the gladiators…)
