  1. Not impressed with the Unsung Stories market announcement. Regarding payment, they say “I’m afraid I can’t tell you anything of substance here, except that our authors do get paid, they do get royalties!”

Say what? One would hope they wrote up a decent business plan, part of which would be a standard contract to offer their writers, including terms for payment of royalties. (Ex: What share of royalties? How often would writers be paid?)

So they should know what their own terms are, and should be able to tell prospective writers those terms. When they say “can’t tell you anything of substance”, what it tells me is that either 1) they don’t have a standard contract prepared yet, in which case they’re not Ready For Prime Time, 2) they have such a contract ready, but are lousy at writing market announcements, or 3) the terms they want to offer are weak enough they don’t want to state them publicly.

Some clarification would be appreciated, Unsung Stories. Until then, nope, not a market I would submit to.

    • My apologies. Looks like I jumped the gun by adding an incorrect link to the submission announcement. They will be open for submissions on Monday and will have an official announcement then. Watch for Tuesday’s Link post for the new link.
