CRATE EXPECTATIONS: Pop In A Box – February 2016 (or, Confessions of a Pop-a-holic)

Today we take a look at one of my favorite monthly subscription services, Pop In A Box. Each month…

Pop In A Box allows you to grow your POP! collection every month with a guaranteed mystery Funko POP! Vinyl that’s not in your collection. Each month we put over $1000 worth of prizes up for grabs for our subscribers, never get pops you’re not interested in and never get a pop that’s already in your collection, simply use our free pop collection tracker so we can give you the best possible mystery subscription box.

I signed up for the 2 Pops/month service and here are the Pops I received for February.

First up, the ever popular Black Widow from The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Who wouldn’t want this one? No one!

Next up, a Cyberman from the “new” Doctor Who series. Conveniently, he is sitting right next to my Fourth Doctor Pop. Pretty cool I think.

Additionally, Pop In A Box has a nice referral program whereby if 4 people sign up using your link, you get a free Pop from your wish list. Well, four SF Signal readers did just that (I don’t know who you are, but you all rock!) and as a result I received this:

That’s right, Smaug from The Hobbit movies. And what makes this cool, aside from being a dragon, is the fact this Pop is one of the oversized Pops. You can’t really tell from the picture, but he is, indeed, bigger than the standard sized Pops. And you’ll pay the same price for your subscription whether you receive oversize Pops or not. Nice.

I have to say Pop In A Box is one of my, if not the, favorite subscription services. Not only are you guaranteed to get a Pop you want (since you tell them what you are interested in) they also pair that with the mystery of not knowing what you are going to get (since they choose the Pops to send to you). You keep the mystery and lose all the tchotchke crap you don’t want. It’s a win-win! They also ship the Pops to you snuggly wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap in a tight-fitting box, so your Pop isn’t going to move around and get damaged. Unless, of course, the shipping guy drops something on it…
